Wemberly is always worried. She is worried about the swings, her birthday party, and her favorite stuffed animal, Petal. Her parents and her grandmother always tell her not to worry, but Wemberly worries even more. When she is very worried, she rubs Petal’s ears and it helps her calm down. Wemberly is worried even more about starting school. Will the teacher be mean? What if she does not like the snack? What if she can’t find the bathroom? Wemberly is worried about everything. Will she be able to go to school and find a friend?

Owen has a favorite yellow blanket. He calls it Fuzzy. Owen goes everywhere and does everything with Fuzzy. His mom and dad think it is perfectly fine, but their neighbor, Mrs. Tweezer, does not. She thinks that Owen is a big boy and does not need a blanket anymore. Mrs. Tweezer tells Owen’s mom and dad that they should let the Blanket Fairy take the blanket away. Owen is too smart and hides Fuzzy in his pants! Then Mrs. Tweezer tells Owen’s parents to pour vinegar on the blanket so it smells and he will not want it anymore. Owen is too smart for this too and buries Fuzzy in the sand so that it smells like sand! Then Mrs. Tweezer tells Owen’s parents that he will not be able to bring it to school. Will Owen be too smart for this too?

Sheila Rae is not afraid of anything. She rides her bicycle without holding on, she steps on every crack in the sidewalk, and walks backwards with her eyes closed. Her sister, Louise, did not think she was as brave as her sister. One day Sheila Rae decides to walk home from school a new way. Sheila Rae calls her sister a scaredy-cat when Louise says that she will not come with her. Sheila Rae walks past dogs and cats, turns corners, and walks across streets. She is fine until she realizes that she is lost. Sheila Rae is not brave any more. Who will be the brave mouse now?

Ruthie Simms does not have a dog, cat, brother, or sister. She does have a best friend. Her name is Jessica. They do everything together. They look at books, they build block towers, and they share food. Ruthie Simms and Jessica also share the same feelings, the same birthday, and they even get sick at the same times. The problem is that her parents think that there is no Jessica. Then one day they tell her that Jessica has to stay home on Ruthie’s first day of kindergarten, but Jessica does go to school.  They take a nap, paint, and go through a tunnel. When the teacher tells the class to find a partner, Ruthie becomes partners with Jessica, but then a different girl asks Ruthie to be her partner. Chrysanthemum is a name of a beautiful flower. It is also the name of a cute little mouse. Chrysanthemum loved her name. She loved the way it sounded and how it looked. That is until she went to school. Everyone at school had short names and Chrysanthemum was so long! Girls at school started making fun of Chrysanthemum’s name because it was a flower. Chrysanthemum did not like the way her name sounded or looked anymore. She thought is sounded dreadful. Will Chrysanthemum ever like her name again?

Have you ever been so excited about something that you just have to share it with everyone as fast as you can? That is how Lily feels. She went shopping with her Grammy and she bought a purple plastic purse that played music when she opened it up and new pair of movie star sunglasses with glittery diamonds and a chain just like her teacher’s glasses, Mr. Slinger. Mr. Slinger is her favorite teacher. Lily wants to be a teacher just like him, but that changed when Lily came to school with her new things. He told Lily to wait until sharing time. Lily just could not wait. Mr. Slinger took Lily’s new things until the end of the day and she could not share them at all! Lily gets so mad that she writes Mr. Slinger a note saying that she does not want to be a teacher anymore. Will Lily change her mind? Will Lily get to share her new things?

Lily found out that she was going to be a big sister. She loved her baby brother right away. She even sang lullabies to him every night when he was in her mom’s belly. But when Julius was born, Lily was very jealous and did not love her brother any more. Lily does not even want her brother to be in her family. She did not like his nose, eyes, and white fur. She thinks he is disgusting! Lily did a lot of mean things to her brother and acted up. She went to time out a lot! Then one day they have a party for Julius and Lily’s cousin, Garland, starts to make fun of Julius the same way that Lily did. How will this make Lily feel?
